Finally settling in, and slowly finding my way back online! ???? Here’s a glimpse of my new #RawVegan #KitchenGarden & #recipedevelopment/preparation workstation setup, featuring some fantastic equipment from @tribestuk (aka @weareinspiredhealth)! The purpose of this post is mainly to highlight features of the #FreshLife FL-3000 automatic #sprouting machine, which is the next level up from my beloved 2000 model from @tribestlife (featured in one of my previous posts created just a few years ago from @LORAXCommunity’s sanctuary kitchen garden in Florida). This was an amazingly generous & thoughtful gift, donated for use in my new setup by an angel/new friend in #SouthSea just before lockdown ended. Thanks ever so much to Vanessa, who seemed keen to see it in action! As such, my stories will likely be filled with loadd of grow footage—in addition to various projects & #rawfoodrecipe ideas featuring several types of #organic #sprouts l. ???? My first #hydroponic growing project was one of my absolute favourites: mung beans! ???? #mungbean sprouts have been so difficult for me to find #organicallygrown anywhere (especially in the U.K.), & usually the ones found in shops are already a bit old (& slimy—????). Freshly harvested mung bean sprouts are delicious, packed with phytonutrients l, & can be used in a variety of #healthful #culinary applications. I like to allow mine to grow rather tall, then cut them down to eat in salads, #vegan sushi, and they’re even great for #juicing! ???? I’ve added a couple of salad pics into this set, just to give an idea of their versatility. Salad 1 is sort of a spicy Mediterranean situation, featuring black courgette hummous, piled over lettuce & marigold petals (both from a very magical friend’s very magical #gardening allotment in Hastings), chopped tomatoes/cucumbers/red peppers, mung bean sprouts, and topped with a slew of delicious kalamata olives from @rawvibrantliving. I’ve been rather addicted to those #rawolives lately, so my other salad is also laden with their deliciousness. Please see comments below for further details...

I can’t believe that I’ve been #vegan for 30 years, & #rawvegan for nearly half of that time! ???????????? Normally I post some crazy #cincodemayo #rawfood fiesta treats to hate on this day, but this year I started doing a water fast when lockdown began in the U.K., and only just began shifting back into fresh #juicing a few short days ago (anyone interested in that element of my journey, please see story highlights for details). Something that hasn’t changed is my inclination to host a #giveaway in honour of the occasion, as it is actually a #Vedic tradition to offer gifts to others on one’s birthday/appearance day/solar return. As such, I am pleased to offer some little tokens of love & appreciation to my #ukvegan friends, as this is the first time I’ve been able to organise such an event while living in #England! Soooo... Up for grabs we have some very serious #homemade #livefermented #veganic hot chilli sauces, made with Scotch Bonnet peppers, spring water, @celticseasalt, & LOVING INTENTION. Both versions are made by process of #livefermentation, though the smaller of the two sizes is more of a “regular heat” level (thus likely most suitable for “normal people” who simply like to add a bit of spicy flavour into their meals) & the other jar was made via #double #fermentation process into a very concentrated compound of the two. The texture of the latter is quite similar to that of the chunkier style sriracha #chilisauce,but these are scotch bonnets & this is definitely NOT for the faint of heart! High in vitamin C, great for boosting immunity, & a little goes a VERY long way. Winners get to choose between the “normal” level hot sauce and the mad dragon concentrate. ???? These #hotsauce blends were made & packed in #London, now being distributed & dispatched from #Cornwall by my dear friend @dale_jon. Is today #WorldCakeDay? I just spotted an incredibly beautiful #vegancake post by my friend @bitchyveganhomo, & am now wondering if such a magical holiday may also apply to those of us living in the U.K.????? In any case, this #rawvegan carrot cake is one of my own creations—which some of you may recall having seen happening live via my instastories awhile back. This #rawveganrecipe is one of my specialities, which I used to sell via various #vegan bakeries and “niche” shops/eateries whilst living in NYC years ago. It is the finest cake I know how to make, & this very special one was created for a very special friend as part of a #sobervegan birthday feast I prepared for him this past Autumn. See the #physalis (a.k.a. #groundcherries/#capegooseberry/#goldenberries) on top? ????Gotta love #seasonal bounty! ???? This cake is one of my original #rawrecipes from about 14-15 years ago when I was first getting into #rawfood & taking small odd assignments here & there as a #rawchef. Unlike my recipe for #rawdonuts on the blog at #RawVeganista.com, this cake does contain walnuts, pecans, & macadamia nuts. The little sweets orbiting the cake are what I often call #LoveBites—#sugarfree coconut caramels with maca (featuring #nonalcoholic “Rumish” from @ishspirits) & fig/almond/maca energy #blissballs. This #rawcarrotcake is completely #veganic, #refinedsugarfree, & something I am considering adding to our #rawveganretreat (& possibly cafe) menu once we’re back on track with #wellnessretreats & classes after lockdown finally comes to an end. ⛓ It may also land in the upcoming book, once that project is back underway. ???????? Happy #EarthDay! ???? It’s also #WaybackWednesday, so I thought that I might share some pics from when I made these fantastic #rawvegan HOT Buffalo cauliflower bites whilst playing around with food in one of my @tribestlife Sedona Classic dehydrators. Ah, how I miss my lovely Sedonas... In any case, I made these by creating a batter from coconut mylk, a bit of ground linseed (to create an “egg”-like binding), some homemade sprouted buckwheat flour, raw coconut flour, spices, a bit of my homemade hot sauce (for which I may be doing a #UKgiveaway quite soon), & some other things I cannot quite recall at this time. ???? To be continued on the blog! They made a perfect wrapped sandwich with some of my classic activated sunflower seed ranch sauce, nestled inside a delicious @cocobynuco raw coconut “tortilla” wrap. ???? As we are still in pseudo isolation here in the U.K., I have finally found a few moments to begin conquering a few major projects whilst enjoying some solitude and sunshine. ???? Amongst said projects is a complete overhaul of the blog at #RawVeganista.com, with kind assistance from one of the most talented designers I know. Also in the process of developing & redeveloping some of my favourite #rawveganrecipes to share (including the one pictured here) to post for you to enjoy once we go live with the new site. I’ll also be reviewing some fantastic #rawfood & #wellness products, hosting giveaways, and posting news on upcoming #culinary workshops & retreats in the #UK, #USA, #France, and possibly a few other spots to be decided/announced in the near future as things begin to re-open around the world. Hoping to have everything completed and ready to roll out by 5th of May, just in time for my 30th #veganniversary! ???? The first image in this series (also from the homepage on my website) is from the first time I tried working with #seamoss—in around 2012. This was during the earlier stages of the #healing process after my cycling accident in Los Angeles, when I opted to modify a #soyafree #rawfood “tofu” recipe from Juliano’s RAW book—& attempted a #cashewfree version so that I could actually eat it. For this dish I used #Irishmoss from @divineorganics & some lush #organic #macadamia nuts from a local #familyfarm. #California macadamia nuts are the absolute BEST! ???????????? At the time I found working with the sea moss to be incredibly bizarre, & the texture (when reconstituted) reminded me of some type of living sea creature. ???? Such a creepy experience for a long-term #vegan! ???? It actually took me a bit of time to get over that, but eventually I learned the #nutritionalbenefits of seamoss & learned how to properly prepare a very palatable #seamossgel. So easy! The texture of this “fauxfu” creation turned out to be very similar to silken tofu (which was never my favourite, though I did occasionally use it for sweet custards & pies), & I used the resulting cubes in a raw Thai style dish with #kelpnoodles & spicy sauce made from #homemade #organic almond butter (find my recipe for #rawvegan spicy satay sauce on the blog at #RawVeganista.com). These days I use #seamoss quite regularly for many things, & enjoy incorporating it into a vast variety of #rawvegan #culinary applications. Final note: This was originally meant to be #FlashbackFriday post, but happened on Saturday due to mass technical & connectivity issues which still have yet to be resolved. Sending SO MUCH #GRATIUDE to my shining #vegan knight Stuart (also #veganforlife for over 30 years! ????) for the last photo in this post, & also for helping me navigate my way through some of this technological labyrinth by allowing me use of his connection & devices. ????????
