Once the leather has been cut, it moves on to the fitting area. There, highly skilled members of our team stitch the pieces together to create the shape of the boot. Stitching is mostly free-form handwork, requiring a great deal of hand-eye coordination, meticulous attention, and dedication. No one knows this more intimately than our very own Jill Hanson. An experienced stitcher at the factory, Jill has been stitching throughout her commendable 40 years of experience at Red Wing.

Also in the fitting area is Marco Huerta Vargas. An essential part of the team for 7 years, Marco has learned techniques on many of our different fitting lines, allowing him to easily move from one style to the next.

An expert in his craft, Jay’s tenure enables him to train people in and support others in the cutting room.
