Who cares about the weather when you have amazing wildlife around you. Honestly, as a photographer, I actually prefer moody weather over blank sunshine most of the time. The beauty of this region is that the weather changes sometimes by the minute.

This day was amazing as we had heavy fog in the morning and a dark threatening rainstorm coming in during the afternoon. The only thing that is for sure is that it will be never the same.

I can't wait to take my guests into Knight Inlet again to watch grizzly bears, as soon as the time is right. There is nothing more beautiful than watching a wild grizzly bear roaming in British Columbia's beautiful scenery.

Sometimes life gets in the way of posting?, so I post a day late for #worldwhaleday.

One of my favourite things is to spend time with whales when it's foggy. Most peaceful, engines off, hydrophone in the water and listening to their blows, that's sometimes all we get for some time but almost always we get visuals sooner or later and that makes it even more special.

I want to use one of my favourite pictures today for a special shout out with a big THANK YOU to
@explorecanada (Destination Canada)

I published all over the world, my images were used by companies like BMW, Porsche, Holland America, Fairmont as well as many magazines like Readers Digest, National Geographic and Canadian Geographic just to name a few.

Yet it is a special honour for me today when Destination Canada decided to use one of my orca pictures for worldwide distribution and advertisement. (The picture you see here is NOT the one licensed!)

But the shout-out is not for that! My very special thanks go out to the Agency because they also could have selected any pictures from any agency for a few $$$. Yet they decided to support a photographer who lives in Canada.

Thank you! Destination Canada for paying a fair price for my image, helps me to survive and I'm so happy to see the shift happening from buying from

As a wildlife photographer, my job is not to get as close as possible to an animal. We all know how they look, I have never been too much into wildlife portraits but I always tried to include the nature and scenery the wildlife lives in.

While it is always exciting to see animals close, hear them or even smell them (stinky minke - lol) there is no real need to get too close to them.

We were sitting still with engines off, comfortable in the boat this late afternoon, had the hydrophone in the water, listening to northern resident orcas and photographed them right in front of those beautiful BC Coast Mountains. It was such a peaceful feeling hearing nothing but the blows and their communication underwater.

It was the perfect ending for this 11+ hour trip into Knight Inlet and the Broughton Archipelago. We saw grizzly and black bears in the morning, dolphins on the way back out of Knight Inlet and then humpback whales and orcas just outside the Broughton. We were super comfortable all day as my boat has a closed cabin and yet still walking around space on the back deck. We had a couple of lunches in between and yes, I also have a little toilet on board - lol.

Being comfortable, able to move around is probably the most important aspect for me when I go on tours. The privacy on my boat, with a maximum of 4 guests is simply a bonus.

Ethical wildlife tours with the lowest possible impact on the wildlife, ocean and nature. We have the time we need to experience and enjoy the area as well as the wildlife without needing to be stressed because we are running out of time. There is no need for us to chase wildlife.
