Cormorants are flying in by the droves these mornings so this is when I like to experiment with various shots.

By dragging the shutter just a little bit, I’m able to show the movement while still being able to ID them as birds.

The slight long exposure also enhances the subtle pink hues of that morning as well.

Glad I was able to capture the celebrity of the moment at Colonel Sam Smith Park this past weekend. Birders were all over this guy as it is rare to see him come up this far North. The Yellow Crowned Night Heron is typically seen sleeping high up in the trees during the day and feeds on fish or hard-shelled crustaceans at dusk/night.
.
He wasn’t very active the days I was able to see him so I only caught him lounging around the branches and nearby rocks.
.
You have to admit though, he has a cute face, don’t you think?

Here’s a sunrise from earlier this month where I happened to be at the right place at the right time. After arriving at this location I heard someone calling my name. It was @hay_picturethis who had said this was the location where the sun was to rise near the CN Tower.

The other day I went out to my yard to find two squirrels busy making a nest high up in a tree. They would climb from one tree to the next to find broken branches and twigs and bring them back to make their new home.

As I was admiring their efforts, I looked around the evening sky to find the beautiful moon shining bright in the blue-hour sky.

I quickly went back inside to get my camera to take some shots and play with different compositions with the moon.

When birds came flying out from the city, it was a spectacular sight to see with your own eyes.
.
Many from this flock landed in the bay in front of me, searching for fish in the lake. But as fast as they flew in the bay, they flew out shortly after...only to have the next flock of cormorants fly in to the bay to repeat the process.

I’ve always loved capturing the motion of birds, so it was a bonus to have several cormorants lined up side by side, flying in front of the sunrise.
.
By slowing down the shutter ever so slightly, and panning my camera as well, these flying cormorants become more whimsical, abstract pieces of art.

If you look closely you can even see the midges going along for the ride too.
