Have you ever watched a sunrise
paint the world back to life?
Using the whole palette to fade the night
But saving dabs of grays and black to create
Your shadows
Their shadows
And mine-
No life complete without brush strokes
borrowed from the bleakness of a winter night

If those dark shades
have suddenly seeped and spread
to every corner
Remember
Even the biggest shadow confirms there is still light
And as soon as the next sunrise
Brighter colors could cover the canvas of your life
????????

Holidays don’t make the hard stuff disappear - and I think sometimes can make them feel a little harder if that expectation is there.
(But I sincerely hope at least a little joy finds you before we finish the year ????)

For anyone learning to follow their gut????

For anyone learning to follow their gut????

I’m so excited to share a poem that I worked on for @mybearaby to encourage you to take a look at how you want to spend the final days of the year - and maybe what that will mean for anyone you are near ????

We’re stepping up to the familiar buffet
Of ways to consume the year’s final days -
Covered in an endless spread of Deadlines
Errands
Traditions
Expectations
Even celebration layered on celebration can begin to taste blandly of obligation
So before you pile your plate too high
Pick a few festive moments to savor -
- Maybe ones with people who are dear -
And push the other pressures away
In favor
Of uncovering space
to rest -
Without the usual guilt served on the side
And maybe by biting into
More deep breaths
More outside instead of online
More time snuggled in bed
More doing nothing at all-
You’ll bring more peace to any table you find yourself
At the close of this year

No such thing as perfect - just what we use as a shield to pretend it’s true ????

Have you ever had a friend drop by
And with the step across
the door
The mundane details become intimate -
Too personal?
The crumpled paper that landed feet from the bin
The plates in the sink you meant clean
Your art hung just a little uneven
The bathroom passable
But how -how is there so much hair on the shower wall?
These imperfections under your roof
Only seem to glare
As a reflection of you-
But maybe - just maybe
By letting a little messiness show
You'll let any guest
Any friend know
They have room to be something other than perfect too
