The only reason we can make such great pastries is because of our team. We serve people 363 days of the year. Even the post office has more days off than our bakery. More than half of our staff has been with us for over a year, and some have been a part of Sugarbloom for over eight! I know how lucky I am to have such a dedicated team, and it had been too long since we took a moment to pause and enjoy ourselves.     For the first time since before the pandemic, we slowed down production for a day to relax and have some fun outside of the bakery. Luckily for us, nobody will be leaving Sugarbloom to join the @pbatour.     Thank you to all of our partners for being considerate about our playing hooky!

A portion of the sales of this year's holiday cookie box will be donated to @cookies4kids in memory of the late Chef Richard Capizzi, Chef Sharon's good friend and mentor: "Chef Richard Capizzi was a friend and mentor to me and his tutelage helped shape Sugarbloom Bakery into what it is today. In a blow to the pastry world (and his loved ones), he passed away in September after a long battle with cancer. His legacy lives on, not only in the way many chefs create, but in the ways they foster community. In March 2020, at the beginning of the pandemic, our little bakery suspended operations so we could catch our breath, regroup, and figure out a way forward that would also ensure the safety of our dedicated team of bakers, assistants, and drivers. (Who remembers scrambling to find hand sanitizer?) So, while locked down at home with her parents (and being driven slightly crazy by them), our chef/owner Sharon Wang decided to try her hand at baking vegan croissants in an effort to keep her sanity. Our bakery was able to resume baking a few weeks later — initially weekends only with a skeleton crew for a handful of wholesale partners and some extremely loyal and incredibly supportive retail customers — and Chef Sharon, while generally pleased with the results, was forced to put this particular vegan croissant project on the back burner. Many months passed and Chef Sharon was eventually able to revisit this project in fits and starts, baking better and more refined prototypes with each iteration. But she wasn’t comfortable letting these out into the wild until she was 100% confident that she and our team could bake vegan croissants 363 mornings a year with the consistency and quality levels that our bakery is known for. Well… almost three years after Chef Sharon started, we, as a team, finally think we're ready. Presenting our brand-new vegan but at the same time good ol’ sesame pretzel croissant, a redux of one of Chef Sharon's original signature pastries: a flakey whole wheat croissant with pretzel-like shell topped with white sesame seeds and Maldon sea salt. We humbly think it's a beautiful #croissant — full stop — that just coincidentally happens to be #vegan. And because Chef Sharon still a perfectionist, it’s currently available for “beta testing.” So please try one — link to order in our bio — and let us know what you think.
