A few years ago, I had a bad back injury. The MRI showed a bulged disc and a possible Scheuermann’s disease finding. I was in a lot of pan for a quite some time and I know it can come back, too.

And I still deadlift. And I still go heavy.

Why? Because I know how to do it properly and deadlifts don’t actually hurt your back. Poorly performed deadlifts do.

You know what actually set this back injury off? DB Russian twists. But that’s a story for a different day…

People are always looking for quick fixes. How can I get from A to B as fast as I possibly can?

Is there an Amazon Prime for that?

Movement patterns take time to explore and understand. And it is most definitely NOT SEXY.

But its the stuff where you get the most out of it.

I was 132lb when I graduated high school.

How do I know this exact number?

Because my college track coach came up to me at the end of my freshman year and asked me why I wasn’t still that same weight. (A different conversation completely.)

And then a year later, with plenty of bad nutrition thoughts and feelings that food was now out to get me, I weighed 155lb.

I never want to be 132lb. I never want to look or feel like I did in high school (or college for that matter).

Hell, we are a month into 2022 and I don’t want to look like what I looked like in 2021.

Why?

Because that’s the past. And there’s no possible time machine out there that can take me back to exactly how I looked in Mexico in February of 2021. Or while in Hawaii in 2018. Or when I was 17 and won the 200m dash at the state championship.

Look forward. Be in the present and future tense because that is all we can change and create for ourselves.

And think less about looking like a past version of ourselves or a similar version of someone else, and do what is best for YOU and your body alone right now.

SURPRISED!! ????

Teddy and I surprised our family and friends on November 20, 2021 with an engagement party turned surprise wedding.

Little did I know, that same night, all of my best friends got together and starting planning my surprise bachelorette for February.

Literally right after the ceremony, they all got in a group chat and have been messaging up to Friday afternoon. Just saying that out loud brings me to tears…

But if you want to watch me get the shock of my life, swipe to the video of me walking in the restaurant. I’ve never been that surprised in my LIFE!

I’ve been feeling a little bummed recently moving to Austin and haven’t made any super solid friendships yet. I’m pretty good about checking in via text and phone calls with my people but after a whirlwind of a year/wedding and quick move, I’ve been really missing some friend time. To say this was needed would have been an understatement of the year. So when @brandijeanneb said she wanted to come visit me for a weekend, I was all about it! Her @ldkaye and I were planning on a little girls weekend and I was so excited to have fun in my new city together.

AND THEN, all of my absolute favorite women showed up in one place. And for little ole ME. Ugh, I feel so damn grateful.

and sure, I’m already married but it was the one part of the “normal” wedding festivities I was totally bummed to miss out on. I would have never asked to do it after we were already married so it’s like they knew me all too well.

This is exercise.
And it’s an incredible one at that.
It’s the most underrated one out there in my personal opinion.

Anyone with an able-body can do more of this. We all should do more of this.

I know, I know. Should is a lame word. It’s easy too should all over ourselves.

But THIS? This deserves a should.

There’s so many benefits to getting out and walking more. Here’s a few:
Improve your mood (did for me today!)
Relieves stress
Increases energy
Easy to get started
Boosts brain power
Vitamin D baby
Promotes a healthy lifestyle

(Google told me it also helps Erectile Dysfunction so there’s that, too ????)

Having a dog gives me at least one walk a day, but even if it’s 5-10 minutes around the block or your house. It’s more than worth it.
