??? This print is an homage to the first mural I ever created. Painted in 2009 at the Old RC Cola plant in Wynwood as part of Primary Flight, this mural would come to signify a series of firsts for me. It was my first large-scale work which marked an important change in my entire process. It would be my first time painting outdoors with the sun on my shoulders. It taught me how to stay focused while enduring all of the physical burdens that come along with it. It was the first time I was told I paint well "for a girl"—an eye-opening exchange that to this day, motivates me to continue creating in an effort to smash such stereotypes. This mural became a foundational piece that changed my life. I’m forever grateful for the friends who pushed me out of my comfort zone and encouraged me to take this on. It opened various doors to many creative opportunities. Because of it, I’ve met and been able to surround myself with some of the most amazing people. We’ve traveled the world together and have created incredible memories while doing so. This piece is a tribute to my own personal and creative growth. ‘ Tickled Pink ‘ will be available as a limited edition print on Monday August 16th at 12pm EST thru August 19th 12:00pm EST. This mural was inspired by Otis Redding, who performed his last shows in Cleveland before his tragic passing. The venue was Leo’s Casino, a jazz club located in the Midtown neighborhood. Through rough times, this venue was one of the first allowing for racial integration as it brought people together through music. Looking at the current state of the world, with so many overwhelming circumstances creating helplessness and division, ‘Try a Little Tenderness’ seemed like an appropriate and necessary title. This mural has been a year and a half in the making as it was postponed due to the pandemic. I am so happy to have been able to bring her to life this week. Thank you for the lovely, moving and touching response CLEVELAND! ❤️?❤️?❤️? More neat little facts about this mural. The Cardinal is Ohio’s state bird. Carnations are the state flower. Also, a neat Miami reference—Julia Tuttle ( mama Miami) is from Cleveland! I incorporated some tiny citrus flowers based on a story in which she sent a bouquet of tropical flora during the winter (undamaged by frost) to induce the extension of the railroad onward into Miami :) Thank you @pro_gress for your lovely contribution.
