➡️Share this with someone you want to do this peak hike with! A lot of people do the 0.75-mile Verna Dunshee Trail to Mt. Tam’s East Peak and call it a day, but my favorite way to get to the peak is by going the long way…starting at sea level. This trail takes you through most of the main highlights that Mt. Tam has to offer. From coastal views to a lush fern-filled forest, a magical wooden ladder, small waterfalls, a historic hotel, gorgeous bay views at the peak’s fire lookout, and golden grasslands on the way down. You’ll experience multiple microclimates and landscapes in one hike. This is also one of my favorite hikes in late spring and summer because it stays so cool. ????Trail: Stinson Beach to Mt Tam Peak [37°53’47.9”N 122°38’09.7”W]–park on the south part of the Panoramic Highway, across from the Dipsea Trailhead], 15 miles, 2771 ft elevation gain, strenuous. ????Follow this guide for step-by-step directions: https://socalhiker.net/hiking-stinson-beach-to-mount-tamalpais/ ⭐Features: The highlights of Mt Tam scenery, lush forests, wooden ladder, small waterfalls, and some of the most stunning views overlooking the Bay. ????Parking: Free ????Toilets: No, but there’s a bathroom at Pantoll Campground about 3.5 miles into the trail. ????Dog-friendly: No ???? Family-friendly: No ♿️Accessibility: No ????What to Know Before You Hike: -Bring layers–some portions of the hike might be foggy or cool forest, others are exposed hillsides, and the summit can be windy. You’ll go through every type of climate, so pack accordingly. -The elevation gain is no joke—slow and steady wins the race. -The best time to hike this trail is any time of the year, but try to go on a clear day for stellar views at the top. ????️Make it a day: Enjoy Stinson Beach and dip your tired toes in the water! ✌Follow @theatlasheart for more California hiking guides! #mttam #mttamalpais #mttamalpaisstatepark #mounttam #mounttamalpais #peakhike #northbay #marin #marinhikes #marinhiking #bayareahikes #bayareahiking #bayareahikers #bayareahike #californiahiking #northerncalifornia #norcalhiking #californiahikes #womenwhohike #womenhikers #hikinggirl #hikerbabes

➡Comment below with your favorite hidden gem in the Bay Area [I’m looking for more suggestions to explore!] ????I had never heard of Mare Island until our friends who live in Vallejo took us there for a day trip. We were blown away by this hidden island in the Bay. What used to be a naval shipyard from the 1850s has become an industrial artsy wonderland. As soon as we started exploring, it immediately felt like a place where a post-apocalyptic movie would take place–scenic yet abandoned (in some areas). We actually saw someone shooting a movie or TV show while we were there, so the initial vibes weren’t too far off base. Here’s my list of things you can do to explore the island to the fullest???? ????The Mare Island Art Studios [only open Sat & Sun]: A community of artists has converted some of the shipyard buildings into studios and galleries. ????Mare Island Naval Shipyard: Established in 1854, this was the first US naval station on the West Coast and is now a National Historic Landmark. ????The Landing Craft Support Museum: Explore a restored ship that was active in WWII. Contact them ahead of time to set up a tour. ????Admiral’s Mansion: A historic mansion where naval officers stationed on Mare Island lived. ⛪St. Peter’s Chapel: Built in 1901, this chapel has beautiful stained-glass windows, many of which were designed by Tiffany Studios. ????Mare Island Shoreline Heritage Preserve: Trails with scenic views of San Pablo Bay, Napa River, and the Carquinez Strait. ????In September, they host a music festival on the island called Dock of the Bay. Grab a drink ☕The Quarters Coffee House ????Mare Island Brewing Co: Coal Shed Brewery: love the stunning waterfront views from here. ????Vino Godfather Winery ????What to know before you go: The bugs were no joke on this island. I’m talking huge, aggressive mosquitos. So, definitely pack the bug spray! -Many places have limited hours or days of operation, so always check opening and closing times when planning your trip. @mareislandartstudios @mareislandbrewingco #mareisland #mareislandbrewingco #mareislandnavalshipyard #mareislandartstudios #vallejoca #vallejocalifornia #bayarea

➡️Save this guide to Point Bonita Lighthouse for your next day trip to the Marin Headlands! ????????Built in 1855 during the California Gold Rush, the Point Bonita Lighthouse was the third lighthouse built on the West Coast. Even still, due to the dense fog and the rocky coastline, over 300 shipwrecks occurred in this area during the Gold Rush era. Point Bonita is still active today, and it’s a unique historic spot to explore with dramatic cliffside views. On the way, you’ll walk through a hand-carved tunnel and cross a suspension bridge, which just adds to the adventure. ????Trail: Point Bonita Lighthouse Trail–1 mile, 203 ft elevation gain, out-and-back, easy. ⭐Features: Historic lighthouse, wildlife spotting, a view of the Golden Gate Bridge on a clear day, and dramatic coastal views. ????Parking: Free. There are a handful of spots right next to the trailhead, but most people will likely need to park at the Point Bonita Parking Lot a short walk away. ????Toilets: Yes ????Dog-friendly: No ???? Family-friendly: Yes ♿️Accessibility: No ????What to Know Before You Hike: -This is the windiest and coldest area of the park. Make sure to wear layers and a beanie (even in summer!). -Look for the wildlife! Harbor seals like to hang out on a beach to your left just before you get to the tunnel (best if you have binoculars), and porpoises and even whales can be seen from the lighthouse during certain times of the year. -During summer, the lighthouse is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and only open for a few hours in the afternoon on Thursdays through Mondays. Make sure to check their website for current times. ➕Make it a day: If it’s clear, drive along Conzelman Road to take in all those Golden Gate Bridge viewpoints and Battery Spencer. ✌Follow @theatlasheart for more California travel guides! @goldengatenps #pointbonita #pointbonitalighthouse #pointbonitalighthousetrail #marin #marinheadlands #goldengatenationalrecreationarea #goldengatenationalpark #marinhikes #northbay #sanfranciscobayarea #sanfranciscoblogger #northerncaliforniacoast

➡️Share this with someone you want to do a national parks trip with this year!  Here’s the perfect way to spend 48 hours between the two parks: ???? Day 1: Sequoia
Lunch at Totem Café → Crystal Cave tour (make reservations) → photo stops at Buttress Tree & Tunnel Log → Crescent Meadow hike (1.3 mi) → sunset at Moro Rock → dinner at The Peaks Restaurant → stargazing with the Sequoia Parks Conservancy. ????️ Day 2: Kings Canyon
Start at General Grant Tree → drive the Scenic Byway with stops at Boyden Cavern (make reservations), Grizzly Falls, Roaring River Falls & Zumwalt Meadow (1.5 mi) → pull over at the scenic turnouts for epic canyon views. If you have more time, you can head to Hume Lake for a couple of hours or do the Big Stump Loop.  ???? Day 3: Sequoia
Photo at the park sign & Tunnel Rock → General Sherman Tree → Congress Trail loop (3 mi) through some of the most impressive sequoias in the park. ✨ 3 Things I Did But Would Skip Next Time I tried these but left them out of the itinerary for a reason:
???? Hume Lake as a quick stop – Beautiful, but the road is slow and winding down. If you’re not planning to spend at least a couple of hours here, it’s not worth the detour. Also, check when the day use area closes.   ???? Sequoia Coffee & Kitchen – The wait is too long on weekends. We got there 30 minutes after they opened, and it still took 20 minutes just to get an iced latte, and the coffee was just okay. Better to head straight into the park early.  ???? The Gateway Restaurant – I found this stop from an Instagram reel, and I kind of wish I hadn’t. One of those influenced places that isn’t worth the hype. Great views, but disappointing food, service, and cleanliness. I’d recommend grabbing food from somewhere further away from the park entrance instead. ???? ➡️ Share this with someone you want to go on a Mendocino getaway with! ✨  Here are my top 3 bucket list activities to make a trip to Mendocino unforgettable???? 1. Explore the Redwoods ????
Options include Hendy Woods SP, Montgomery Woods SNR, Jackson State Forest, Russian Gulch SP (waterfall hike!), and Navarro River Redwoods SP.  2. Kayak Mendocino Tour ????
Paddle through sea caves, blowholes, and kelp forests. It’s adventurous but still beginner-friendly and gives you a whole new perspective of the coastline. 3. Skunk Train to Glen Blair Bar ????
Enjoy a drink at a forest bar in the middle of the redwoods, complete with fire pits, s’mores, string lights, and live music. The drinks were surprisingly affordable; I’d just recommend getting beer or wine. The cocktails weren’t great.  Things I’d skip:
❌Glass Beach - beautiful beach with some tidepools, but the glass is mostly gone + it’s super crowded.
❌Railbikes - unique, but overpriced for what it is. More of my favorite things to do in Mendocino:
 ???? Walk the Mendocino Headlands
 ???? Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens
 ????Point Cabrillo Light Station
???? Wine tasting (love Lula Cellars!)
 ???? Kelley House Museum
 ????️ Boutiques in downtown Mendocino
???? Fresh seafood at Noyo Harbor (HarborView Restaurant at Noyo Harbor Inn for a sit-down, or Sea Pal Cove for casual fish + chips)
????️ Jug Handle Beach ????What to do in Mendocino County, What to see in Mendocino CA, Mendocino weekend trip, Mendocino coast, things to do in Mendocino, things to do in mendocino downtown, weekend getaways from San Francisco, Mendocino getaway, Mendocino girls trip, Mendocino magic
