To some people this is going to sound silly, maybe dramatic and partially insane. But I sold my first car today. The car that drove me to and from dance practice as a teenager, to my first day at a public school as a junior in high school, to 3 different dance studios, to the first recording session I ever had, to my first boyfriends house. This car drove me to Atlanta and back when I decided to move away from home, it drove me to church when I was seeking God, it drove me to my Eating Disorder rehabilitation, to my counseling sessions, to my vocal lessons, to the recording studio, to lawyers offices and to the 8 different places I lived in Atlanta over the 6 years I was living there. This is also the car that brought me back home to my family in Nashville in 2017.

This was more than a car to me, it was my home. Every time I would get in, turn the key, and drive... I was reminded of how far I have come and how much I have grown as a person. It was also a reminder that no matter how bad things got, if I kept driving, the road would eventually lead me to higher ground.

I am no doubt a very sentimental person as you can imagine, but something about parting ways with this car was more difficult than I thought. That being said, I am very glad that the person who bought this car was a 16 year old boy who’d been saving up his money for his dream car since he was five years old... which just so happened to be my car.

As I watched them drive away, all I kept imagining was although my journey was ending, his journey with this car was just beginning. And although I am sad, I will always be grateful for the gift it was to me, the places it’s taken me, and the memories it has given me. All I can hope for now is that it brings him the same beautiful adventures that it once gave me.
