We have signed copies of Joan Fontcuberta's 'Contravisiones' (Ediciones Anómalas, 2021) - Of this archival publication on the conceptualist's work, the publisher states: 'Countervision describes the elements that erode photographic language itself, calling it into question and rising up against its logic. Our task of selecting and editing images, many of which have never before been published, has included searching for elements that tend towards the unreal, the magical and the oneiric. We weren’t only interested in what actually appears in the images but also in what they conceal, what transcends them and what provokes our imagination. In short, all those images that in one way or another sidestep what we call reality.

Copies have arrived! In 1979, JEB (Joan E. Biren) self-published her first book, 'Eye to Eye: Portraits of Lesbians'. Revolutionary at that time, JEB made photographs of lesbians from different ages and backgrounds in their everyday lives―working, playing, raising families, and striving to remake their worlds. The photographs were accompanied by testimonials from the women pictured in the book, as well as writings from icons including Audre Lorde, Adrienne Rich and a foreword from Joan Nestle. 'Eye to Eye' signalled a radical new way of seeing ― moving lesbian lives from the margins to the centre, and reversing a history of invisibility. More than just a book, it was an affirmation of the existence of lesbians that helped to propel a political movement. Reprinted for the first time in forty years and featuring new essays, 'Eye to Eye' (Anthology Editions, 2021) is a faithful reproduction of a work that continues to resonate in the queer community and beyond. Copies are available now in-store or order through the online shop (link in bio) ❤️

'I can't stand to see you cry' (Loose Joints, 2021) is an exploration of Texas and the surrounding states, as well as the people who are fixed within its complex landscape. Rahim Fortune analyses relationships between family, friends and strangers ,all caught in a flood of health and environmental issues while working to maintain grace. The artist uses his own personal experiences to explore the friction between public and private life, and the unspoken tensions in daily life through an approach rooted in the landscape. Moreover, Fortune’s biographical approach to photography attempts to unpack his own identity and experience in the midst of a pandemic, civil unrest, a cross-country move, a career, and the loss of a parent, thinking about both the future and past..

'Heavyweight Champion' (Mechanical Productions, 2021) is the result of six years’ collaborative collage works for Bristol’s Young Echo collective. The collective’s 12 members have been running club nights, radio shows and releasing music since 2010. Two of them, Amos Childs & Sam Barrett (who also make music together as O$VMV$M), have been responsible for creating the posters to promote the club nights since the start. These posters are a regular fixture in the visual landscape of the city, on walls, bins, bus stops and pretty much any other available surface in the lead up to each event. Their informal visual language immediately sets them apart from the other flyers vying for attention. They’re intriguing: through not having the artist names featured as prominently as possible they encourage the viewer to take a deeper look. There’s dense layers of images and cut-and- pasted phrases to be deciphered – ultimately a far more engaging experience than being shouted at by a generic and large-fonted neon specimen. ? ??✂️

Restock! 'No New Theories' (Printed Matter, 2019) builds on Kameelah Janan Rasheed’s accretive and associative installation work, bringing together xerox abstractions, poetic text fragments, and found as well as original photography to explore learning and unlearning as a spiritual, socio-political, ecological, and cognitive process. Rasheed freely assembles writing alongside visuals drawn from mulitiple sources - and gathers these threads with an emphasis on the processes of revision and improvisation as she considers the entropic potential of meaning in place of fixed definitions.
