The Word of 25-26: Planted and Deeply Rooted to Bare Fruit This time last year felt hopeful but worrisome. New house. New school. Looking for a new baseball team. We were certain we were doing what God wanted but still worried: had we heard correctly? Did we do things right? Today Ryder starts 4th grade at the school he loves and wishes he could attend for college. He returns to his beloved baseball team for year 2, this year starting on both A and B teams. Our house is a home constantly full with Ryder’s friends and our chosen and natural families. We are really blessed. While walking Ryder to school, we passed a tree with a ton of fruit. If you weren’t paying attention you’d miss it because most of it was green. I said to Rj and Ryder “Damn this is a good tree. It’s baring a ton of fruit. Wait til it ripens.” In an instant I felt God say “Just like Ryder” When walking back, the side of the tree facing the sun already had a few fruits ripening. A glimpse of what was to come. I’m so excited for Rydes. I’m so thankful we are planted here. So grateful we have been rooted in such the same d soil. And so excited for this new year. May God bless and keep all of our babies this school year. And should they be uprooted, trust that God has the soil they need elsewhere. Don’t fight it. Because when you let Him plant you where He wants you, you will thrive!

Mrs B was my other mother. Ryder’s Auntie Ingrid. When @kingbach wanted to move to LA, he called me and asked me to please talk to his mom to convince her to let him come. In her very gentle, light, Jamaican accent she made sure I was a Believer and that I would make sure Andrew attended church every weekend. I promised (and actually did make sure he went to church for like 6 months) and that’s when she entered my life. For the past 15 years she has been a constant. I don’t think I’ve gone longer than a week or two without speaking to her. She helped me pray through staying in LA, my marriage, motherhood, divorce, and everything in between. She taught me to handle my money. To invest. When to say no for the sake of my family. She helped me pick schools for Ryder. Homes to live in. To plan my life. The most important thing she gave me was @tinabach Christina is my sister. If you know me you know her. Mrs Bachelor mothered us both. Made us both in charge of each other. Sometimes in charge of Andrew lol. But she made sure we made sure that everyone around us was okay - teaching us to care for our loved ones and community the way she did - and to take care of each other in the meantime like she did her sisters. Mrs B left us this week. And there’s been a thousand lbs on my chest since the moment she left. But we will continue to make her proud. We will take care of each other. And our community. And hopefully, when God calls us home, we will have even an ounce of the impact she had on us. This is very intense pain.

My tiny babies came to visit me at work today and I was so happy they were there and so proud to give them this experience. I am so excited for the world to see this show but I’m mostly proud that I got to make a show that is FOR them: a show that demonstrates what it means to be extraordinary black people on a lot where they see people like themselves. There’s no limit to what my babies can do because we are breaking every barrier. Thanks to DC Comics, @aaron_pierre1 and @quintab and our SC Family Makeup Crew at The Pitt for making them feel like VIPs
