If you have known food security your entire life you’re one of the most fortunate humans on the planet. Never in human history has there ever been the abundance of food that there is today, yet so many people do not know where their next meal is coming from.
This is regular news. I am not breaking the internet with this knowledge.
If you are one of the lucky ones there is no reason to feel guilt. Guilt never fills tummies, it only seeks to burden the soul. If you’re an individual who has not always known a full fridge, there is no reason to feel shame. At ALL.
Shame and guilt are the most useless of the conditioned human experiences. So let’s forget that and move on to something more useful and productive. If you have the ability to pick up another can of beans or a box of pasta at the grocery store, please do. After taking care of your and your family’s needs, consider donating what you CAN AFFORD to share with a food bank. While we are no longer dealing with the hysteria around a potential food shortage, there is most certainly still a food crisis going on. We are several months into this global pandemic. The struggle for many is still great and the need for supplies is as dire as ever. The instability of continued federal support puts many people at risk of detrimental shortages in food supplies. The faster we figure out we, the HUMAN race, really are all in this together, the better it’s going to get for life on Earth. COVID-19 has lifted a magnifying glass to this reality. It does not matter if you’re white, black, brown, yellow, purple, polka-dotted, one eyed, from the Global North or Global South, three-legged, immigrants, illegal, legal, female, male, any variation of any of these with a sprinkle of something else… these are just words to differentiate. Everyone deserves health, wellness, love, and kindness. Humans that are trying to keep everything for themselves, those that are choosing to risk the lives of others including healthcare workers because they’re not getting their way, and individuals putting other people at risk for the sake of their pocketbook... Morally wrong decisions are just that - wrong. Choosing compassion for all and realizing that we have to get our heads out of the dirt to understand there is no “us and them” is key. It’s just US. The outdated way of thought does not have a place in a better future. We are all connected. There are no boundaries, no regional borders, no walls, no man-made structure that can keep us apart. Change is here. CLEARLY. For those that embrace it, and for those that oppose it. It is happening.
A great miscalculation human society has made is underestimating the female. Understand that to put a woman down, to ‘keep her in her place’, is representative of how much one fears her potential and capabilities. This is by no means intended to disrespect the amazing men in the world. There is no need to bring down any sex. The only way forward is to build each other up.
I was raised in a family with an incredibly strong mother, as one of four sister - so many females, with my incredible father. He, throughout my life, told me that I would be naively underestimated because I am a woman. He encouraged me to understand this socio-cultural division of expectation, and to know that simultaneously challenging this with unrelenting strength would be my greatest tool to cut through the patriarchy.
THAT is a man, a person that I respect, that never sought to pigeonhole his daughters, but to encourage them to rise above and strive for heights unimaginable to many.
No matter how you make money in this world, no matter what title you do or do not possess, no matter where you come from, be a leader. Be bold.
Refuse to accept anything that sounds like, “You’re too this, you’re too that.. you should do this, and you can’t do that”.
Let us be, let us support, let us raise strong men and women that know how to work together and not tear each other apart with outdated discourse.
May we actually, and not just talk about it or hear it said in political speeches, choose leaders based on their intellect, capabilities, morale, and intentions - not their genitalia nor other inconsequential attributes.
I firmly believe this generation is ready to retire the old ways, so let’s make it happen.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. Race is not real. It’s a cultural construct that has been created to differentiate groups of people. Our skin tone is representative of the level of sunlight we need to create vitamin D in our bodies. THAT IS ALL. There is no real biological difference between us. RACISM, however, is VERY VERY real. It is the manifestation of deep seeded ignorance and hatred, which all boils down to the presence of fear. Fear drives everything that we see right now. That is the absolute primary instinct being set off in everyone right now. It’s an archaic instinct that has cultivated real societal degradation. Societal and institutional racism need to be abolished, but until then… Anyone, especially my friends that have higher levels of melanin than I do, my friends of ‘color’: Want to go watch the birds? Call me, I’ll go with you.
Want to go for a walk around your neighborhood and don’t feel safe? Call me, I’ll go with you.
Want to go to the gas station and don’t want to go alone? Call me, I’ll go with you.
Want to go to the beach for a swim? Call me, I’ll go with you.
Want to take your children to the park and you feel like you’re going to stand out? Call me. I’ll go with you.
Want to sit and have a coffee in peace? Call me, I’ll go with you.
Want to read a book on a park bench and not be bothered? Call me, I’ll go with you.
This is so incredibly wrong. Until this era is washed away, the ignorance is replaced with education and cultural sensitivity, and emotional intelligence is emphasized...I’m choosing to stand on the side of history where this stops. I’m with you.
