On January 6-8, the best skiers and riders from across the globe are set to return to @mammothunbound at @mammothmountain for the Toyota U.S. Grand Prix Slopestyle and Halfpipe World Cups.

The event will serve as the last domestic U.S. Snowboard and Freeski Olympic Tryout Event and provides a pathway towards qualifying for the 2022 U.S. Olympic Snowboard and Freeski Teams.

While we are all stoked about the high snow totals, together, with our friends at @mammothmountain, we are working to keep our visitors safe. For skiers and riders, two important things to be aware of are avalanche education and Snow Immersion Suffocation (SIS).

Avalanche mitigation work will be taking place across the mountain when we get a big storm. The team at Mammoth Mountain humbly asks for your patience as they work around the clock to safely open terrain wherever possible.

SIS danger is a reality during and following major snowfall. Ski and ride with a buddy and keep your buddy in sight at all times.

Closures and weather holds are in place for everyone’s safety – do not jeopardize your safety, the safety of Mammoth Mountain employees and the safety of other guests by cutting closures. At a minimum, you will lose your pass.

Snow storms are part of the package when you visit the mountains in the winter. Sometimes you get the perfect powder day. Other times you’re hunkering down while it’s dumping or digging your car out of massive wind drifts.

We can’t predict the weather, but we do know that being safe during storms is the only way to guarantee you’ll get to enjoy the snow once the skies clear.

When you’re traveling to Mammoth Lakes during winter weather put your safety and the safety of others first.

❄️ Check road conditions regular and try to plan your drive around weather windows.

❄️ Always carry chains, a snow shovel and emergency supplies.

❄️ Follow local chain regulations, and be aware that the requirements may change as weather shifts.

❄️ Be patient and remember that road crews are prioritizing your safety if a road closes due to hazardous conditions.
