Hablamos Español ???????? as a first generation Dominican American, I learned Spanish first and grew up speaking it every single day with my family and people in my community. Now my kids are growing up in a different environment, and I find less and less Latino children are understanding the language or being able to communicate with their elders.???? this was something that I knew early on I had to take on if I wanted Willow to speak Spanish. As she has gotten older, it has become more difficult to enforce it because everything around her is in English. But we do the daily work at home and I make sure to correct her and speak to her in Spanish. She’s also enrolled in a Spanish afterschool program once a week, which is super helpful. if this is something you’re interested in doing, ask away.
