I’m officially a part of the Callaway Golf R&D team. For as long as I can remember, I always wanted to work on an R&D team for a big golf company. I have a passion for making golf equipment better and I want to be a part of something bigger than just myself. In my opinion, Callaway Golf is the industry leader in innovation and design. My official title is Associate Product Designer, and I’ll be working on wedges and Odyssey putters. I’m beyond thankful for all of you who have helped me along the way in getting to this point. Yo! Cool story!!! Before I started with HONMA I was asked to create a couple wedges as samples for the US office and for the team in Japan to look at. . I decided to go with a design that included stamping, hammering, and gold leafing. I wanted to incorporate gold leafing because gold has such a large presence within the brand. Before leafing, I hammered the area so that once the leaf was applied, it would glisten and shine at pretty much any angle. . Everyone in the office, and in Japan loved it. In fact the team in Japan loved the design so much they decided to remove the gold leafing and instead ACTUALLY GOLD PLATED the area instead with real 24CT GOLD! ?? . They did it to my surprise, and sent it back to our US office. When I got it back I couldn’t believe the shine and pop that came off that area...it’s WAY crazier looking than any gold leafing I’ve done in the past. My mind was instantly bombarded with creative thoughts on designs and endless possibilities. . Moral of this story is...I feel we have the most experienced, and talented team in the golf industry, capable of doing things to golf clubs beyond your wildest imaginations.
