M Cafe Brings Japanese Inspired Cuisine to La Brea
After months as a pop-up, M Cafe has opened a permanent location at 148 South La Brea Avenue (inside American Rag), bringing its Japanese-inspired macrobiotic cuisine to a new neighborhood. Founded in 2005 by Yuta Tsunoda, the longtime local favorite focuses on balanced, seasonal eating built around whole grains, vegetables, beans, sea vegetables, and sustainably sourced fish — with no meat, eggs, or processed sugar.
Tsunoda, who trained at the Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills and worked with his family’s Chaya Restaurant Group, blends traditional Japanese philosophy with modern California dining. Signature dishes like the Big Macro and rotating bento boxes have earned a loyal following, while the menu naturally accommodates vegan and vegetarian diners.
To celebrate the new La Brea home, M Cafe is hosting an in-store event on Saturday, February 21 featuring fresh-ground matcha from Cuzen Matcha and design-forward appliances from Balmuda, along with Japanese-inspired grab-and-go items.
With two locations now open, M Cafe continues to evolve while staying rooted in its core macrobiotic philosophy.
