When I first landed in Türkiye, I was blown away by something unexpected—the wine menus! Nearly 90% of the offerings were Turkish wines! Coming from a place where Turkish wine isn’t widely known, I had no idea just how rich and vibrant the wine culture here really is. Despite being a Muslim-majority country where alcohol is heavily taxed, Turkish winemakers craft some truly exceptional wines that deserve all the attention. ????Turkey is one of the world’s oldest wine-producing regions, with a history dating back thousands of years. The unique climate and diverse terroirs—ranging from Cappadocia’s volcanic soils to the cooler Aegean coast—give Turkish wines their distinctive character. ???? Two of my absolute favorites were the white varieties: Narince, often from the Tokat region, offers a crisp, floral, and slightly nutty flavor perfect for warm days. And Emir, grown mainly in Cappadocia, is a fresh and zesty white with bright acidity and delicate fruit notes that pair beautifully with the region’s food and breathtaking views. @kocabagwines Emir at this tasting was ????
