“Water collection is now very easy for us. We have fresh and clean water very close to our home to enjoy and use anytime we want,” says 8-year-old Bhola.

In September 2020, @worldvisionindia installed a solar water supply system in Bhola's remote village, which is located in one of the driest districts of India.

Having access to safe, clean water close to home that children and families can drink and wash their hands in is essential—now more than ever! ?

We're only two weeks away from our Virtual Global #6KforWater!

While it may look a bit different this year as we run, walk, and roll from our homes, backyards, trails, and neighbourhoods, we will also be hosting an online gathering so we can come together virtually and have an incredible day!

Why 6K? It's the average distance people in the developing world walk for water, which is often contaminated and can cause life-threatening illnesses. When you join this event, you will help bring #cleanwater to children and families who need it most.

You can learn more about the 6K for Water, happening on May 29th, and sign up now at the link in bio.

“I was so happy, like I’ve never been in my life. My prayers have been answered. The water is very close now,” says 9-year-old sponsored child Ireen.

In August 2020, after four tries and much effort by the drilling team, a borehole was drilled in Ireen's village by World Vision Malawi. Her family and community now have clean water they can use for drinking and preparing food. There is even a place for community members to wash laundry by the tap.

Ireen's mother, Chimwemwe, is a single mother raising four children on her own. She desperately needed the change that comes with clean water.

Chimwemwe didn’t want her bright daughter to follow the rugged path she’s had to walk: dropping out of school early to work on farms, marrying too young, and rising before dawn to begin collecting water from a dirty stream.

Instead of walking an average of 6 kilometres per day, Ireen and her mother now walk less than 4 minutes for clean water. Chimwemwe is also a member of the water committee. She was taught how to fix the tap and will ensure the borehole lasts.

Ireen is one of the children that we run and walk #6KforWater for—so that she may stay healthy, safe, and have more opportunities in the future!

Walking long distances for water can create a dangerous journey for children, especially during the evening as the risk of being attacked by robbers increases.

Thanks to a new piped water system, children from this community in Mozambique no longer have to walk for water. Instead, #cleanwater is gathered from a tap right by their homes. ?
