Of all the hikes I’ve ever done - and I’m very grateful to have hiked through some incredible places in the past - the journey from Valbonë to Theth has just become one of my favourites (and one of the most beautiful) so far. The varied terrain took us through forests and fields; up a mountain, through a river bed, and down streams; through straight lines and switchbacks; past sheep and horses; and over mud, rock, dirt, pebbles, and grass alike; from one idyllic alpine village to another (with a couple of tiny, remote mountain cafes to be found along the way, in which to refill our flasks with natural spring water and rest our weary legs!) all in one day. The views were amazing, the climate was beautiful, the company was excellent, and after we had been dreaming of a return to adventure, the experience was just what we had all been needing. This mountain group may be called The Accursed Mountains, but at the risk of sounding like a cliché, to us, this journey was a blessing ????
