ℹ️????Meteora is a stunning rock formation in central Greece, famous for its monasteries built atop towering sandstone pillars. The name Meteora means “suspended in the air,” which perfectly describes the dramatic landscape. It’s one of the most important monastic sites in Greece, second only to Mount Athos. The monasteries date back to the 14th century when monks sought refuge in the cliffs to escape invasions. At its peak, there were 24 monasteries, but today only six remain active.
