Human Format was created by Phillip and Danny after realising how easy it is to lose ourselves in this day and age. We both ADHD’rs and like many people, we spent years pushing forward without truly noticing what we felt or what our intentions truly were, until exhaustion, confusion, and unhelpful habits became our normal. It also took us a long time to get to this point of launching the company… ???????? Therapy, wellness and journaling helped us slowly reconnect with the parts of ourselves that were buried. Of course, things didn’t change overnight, but it opened up a new emotional landscape – something that isn’t taught in schools and is rarely touched on at home. Anything I say here feels insufficient to capture the loss of one of my oldest, dearest, best friends in the world but I’ll have a go. Really, Joe was a brother to me - sometimes the annoying older one, most of the time I was the annoying younger - but no matter where we were, what we were doing, or how much time had passed, we always found our way back to each other. He knew me. He had seen my at my worst and been there for my best. He knew how to listen, and how to temper my impatience with a calm, considered word. Gosh, that will be missed. I was always so proud of him and what he managed to achieve with his incredibly stubborn and methodical approach. It worked for him and I encourage everyone to go check out his work. @josephloughborough There is a rare magnitude to it that captures the crippling chaos and beauty of life. It’s a penetrating gift that he leaves behind for us all. I am lucky to have experienced such a full and profound friendship full of warmth and joy at watching each other evolve. Nearly 30 years of absurd silliness, growing pains, art, making theatre together, mischief, skateboarding, travelling, heartbreaks, railing against authority, life advice, long conversations about the conundrums of love, heated debates about which pub to go to, chess, frustration, encouragement, love, cheekiness and high fives. And those quiet moments we got to share- when the bedlam had settled and we could reflect on the madness of it all - are sketched in me forever. Rest in peace, dear friend. Catch you amongst the stars. —- During this incredibly difficult time, I’ve been doing what I can to support those closest to him - especially his partner, Audrey, and his family, Dominic and Emma. I’ve helped set up a fundraiser to bring together the many offers of support we’ve already received, and to help cover the significant costs of Joe’s farewell, as well as the additional fallout from his untimely passing.
