For its latest design in China, the Australian firm Koichi Takada Architects takes inspiration from Shanghai's forest-rich landscape and creates a series of architectural "trees" that branch out, forming a canopy above a new marketplace. Through its open, biophilic design, the Solar Trees Marketplace will be an extension of the outdoor public space, reinterpreting the traditional Chinese market as a community place. The market will form the gateway to a new development and is intended as a community space, nodding to the role that Chinese markets have played at the heart of the country's societies through the ages. The "Solar Trees Marketplace" is already under construction and will include photovoltaic panels and a natural ventilation system when it completes in 2022. Over by Downtown Miami's Bayside Marketplace, another supertall structure is in the works. Proposed to rise as an iconic attraction and entertainment venue, developer Berkowitz Development Group, headed by Jeff Berkowitz, intends to build SkyRise Miami to 1,049 feet. The recreational tower is designed by Arquitectonica, and will feature various attractions such as Skyplunge, Skydrop, Skyrise Flying Theater, multiple types of observation decks and event and meetings spaces as well. The site is addressed as 401 Biscayne Boulevard, sitting at the end of the pier adjacent to the marketplace. Hints of activity has been seen in recent times, but not much progress has been made as of yet. The store has a textured mosaic stone façade that evokes nature of the neighbouring park. Appearing as a sculpted stone emerging from the ground, the store is a visual anchor in the city. The public route has a multifaceted glass façade that contrasts with the opacity of the stone. Through the glass, retail and cultural activities inside are revealed to the city’s passers-by, while visitors in the interior acquire new vantage points to experience Gwanggyo. Formed with a sequence of cascading terraces, the public loop offers spaces for exhibitions and performances.
