HOW TO SUPPORT BEGINNER ARTISTS ???? Which way will you support your fellow creatives today? Comment below and tell me! What’s at the heart of a healthy, thriving, creative community? EMPOWERED BEGINNERS WHO KNOW THEIR SH*T AND SUPPORT EACH OTHER. ☝️ #1: LIKE THEIR STUFF When you see a beginner artist post their work online, make sure you like it, comment on it, and share it if you can! It literally costs you nothing and it's an important part of their self marketing. ✌️ #2: ENCOURAGING WORDS Be their cheerleader. Most beginners struggle with self confidence because they are putting themselves out there amongst people who have been creating art for years (or decades!). Give them words of encouragement and remind them how they are badass for following their dreams. ???? #3: SHARE YOUR KNOWLEDGE There are a lot of things that newbie creatives need to navigate on their own. If you can lend a hand - do it! Share your pricing, your tips for creation, how you like to get new clients, where you find work, how to get into a gallery... all the things! Again, it costs you nothing but a few minutes of your own time to share. ???? #4: SEND THEM WORK This one is possibly the most powerful because it gives beginner artists one of the most valuable things - experience. If you are busy and can't take on a job or you simply don't want to take on a job for whatever reason - refer your client to a beginner artist that you trust! Create a short list of beginner artists you trust and keep it on hand. Double tap if you agree (and you’ll send some encouraging words to a beginner today!). . . . . #freelance#freelancer#freelancelife#myartbiz#art#illustration#design#graphicdesigner#artbiz#artbusiness#artist#createforaliving#contentcreator#negotiation#creativenegotiation

???? Creatives are pros at ruminating on why they lost a freelance job. Can I get an AMEN? ???? Here are a few tips on why your potential client didn’t hire you that will help you go from bummed to EMPOWERED. REASON: The client didn’t feel that your services were worth the price. SOLUTION: With each client inquiry, convey exactly why your services offer distinct value that solves their immediate problems. REASON: The client was more interested in another creative’s proposal. SOLUTION: Reassess your pricing, quality of work, communication tone, and credibility. REASON: The client “settled” with another creative bc your pricing was too high. (The ‘ol - oh we just hired our nephew because he’d do it for free!) SOLUTION: Revisit your pricing, but seriously keep in mind that the client might have just settled bc they didn’t need your level of quality or weren’t convinced that they did. REASON: The client shifted the vision and you no longer fit into the equation. SOLUTION: Follow up and show excitement about future projects together! Remind them that if they end up needing you, you’d love to provide your quality services. ???? Have you experienced any of these points? If so, how have you gone about troubleshooting in the past? Let me know how you’ll put these tips to use moving forward!

Do you keep saying yes to freelance jobs you don’t care about? Look, I get it, I’ve been there. BUT - If you’re in this for the long haul, start considering saying no to work you don’t want… Clearly we all have to pay the bills and sometimes saying no just isn’t an option but… If you’re in that boat, why not get a part time (or full time) job while you’re building up your freelance client work? I feel like the idea of being *full time* freelance is so glamorized but we should really start harnessing the power of job security while we build up traction in our freelance work. ALSO, THE WORK YOU CREATE AND PUT OUT THERE IS THE WORK YOU WILL ATTRACT. PERIODDDDD. Got an opinion on this? I want to hear!

Creatives are good at procrastination. Can I get an AMEN? Here are a few procrastination swaps that will help you go from depressed to MOTIVATED AF. INSTEAD OF THIS: Obsessing over another artist’s “success” TRY THIS: Do a big brain dump of ideas for easy digital products you can create this week INSTEAD OF THIS: Mindless Instagram scrolling TRY THIS: Dive down the Youtube vortex (c’mon we’ve all been there) and learn a new skill you can actually use in your creative biz INSTEAD OF THIS: Comparing your artwork to others on the internet TRY THIS: Obsess over practicing your chosen craft every day and celebrate momentum INSTEAD OF THIS: Consuming content TRY THIS: Create content (even if it’s not perfect) Which one will you swap today? Let me know in the comments. I’m choosing the last one and writing up some fab newsletters that will be going out this week to everyone enrolled in the #happymoneyclass mini course ✊

Hey y’all welcome back. It’s Wednesday and you know what time it is… critique corner time. If you’d like for me to review a piece of your artwork here on critique corner, go ahead and drop a link to the piece you would like me to critique in the comments below. Today we’re reviewing the work of designer @jennamaryx Jenna submitted a typographic piece and y’all know I’m into type and all things lettering too so here we are. With this review I’m going to be giving feedback on hierarchy and composition. Her piece has a lot of cool stuff going on that we could talk about but we only have like a couple minutes so let’s keep it simple, shall we? #critiquecorner#artcrit#artcritique#artschool#art#creative#creativeforlife#review#composition#hierarchy#learning#typography#lettering#typedesign#graphicdesigner#designschool#graphicdesign
