Thank you. I’ve read every comment, every message, every voice notes, every story you shared about your own dogs. I’ve felt less alone because of you. And overjoyed by your love. We spent Carlin’s last day in the sun after his final bath. He had his favorite treats: popcorn, bone marrow, my dear friend Alexa even brought charcuterie and roses for his bed, my bestie @nmarte85 sent us a orchid, my neighbor Jude baked him a delicious chocolate cake, and her husband played guitar while all told him he was such a good boy. We did one last photoshoot with his brother & Sister Chaplin & Bunny. It was magical. The kind of beauty you only notice when you know you’re about to lose it. And he laid there surrounded by love and I held him in my arms as he passed. This was especially emotional for me because I wasn’t able to be physically present for either of my parents when they died. So being able to hold and guide him as he passed away felt sacred and healing on a level I wasn’t expecting. As close to God as I’ve ever felt. What a gift. It’s strange how the world keeps spinning after a loss. I still half expect to hear his paws on the floor the morning after. I called out to him. But I know he’s still here, in a different way. I’m filled with his joy and hunger for life. And cake. Hug your dogs. Take them to the beach. Let them get the sand everywhere. My dad was diagnosed with with Alzheimer’s disease. At some point he told my sister @epeluso1 and I that he owned a limo company and drove George Clooney, Robert Dinero, and Brad Pitt to the airport in his limo. And instead of us telling him that didn’t happen, we went along with it. Negating the reality of an Alzheimer’s patient can create more confusion. And heartache. Remember it’s their world and we’re just the supporting roles. Try to imagine it’s a game of improv. ‘Yes/And’ whatever they say. It will make your life (and theirs) more manageable.
