LA BOOK LAUNCH ????????Incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to launch @thenewstereotype: STORIES in LA in partnership with @laroomandboard! As I mentioned on the panel, this journey and TNS in general is about community. We are honored to be able to celebrate Black stories and it is my hope to do it for the rest of my life. BIG ANNOUNCEMENT: Today, is my birthday. I’m grateful to see my Jesus Year and experience 33 years of life. The best gift I have right now is life and love and I appreciate them both immensely but that isn’t the big announcement. A few weeks ago I decided to do something bold and also something that challenged me. I wanted to do something filled with purpose. I moved back to NYC over a year ago because I wanted to be a part of something outside of myself. After sitting in my thoughts, I have decided to self-publish my first book. In partnership with my brother, @aqut, we are revitalizing @thenewstereotype. The New Stereotype (TNS) celebrates and highlights the many diverse layers of black life in America through fashion + photography. TNS: STORIES is a year-long story-telling journey that celebrates the lives of black men and women in their truest form. Each installment of the book, labeled a CHAPTER as an ode to the synopsis of each person’s personal story, serves as an interconnected thread to show how black men and women are both a powerful ballad individually yet an unspoken symphony in unison. The journey will conclude with a gallery exhibition in New York City with the launch of the editorial book featuring imagery photographed by @aqut. Featured in post: CHAPTER MARQUELLE, the first few images of the book. The hydrangea is a flower that represents friendship, a deep understanding and the giver’s gratefulness and appreciation. This book is my hydrangea to my people. I’m proud to be a black man and I am inspired by our continuous grace, grit, innovation, originality and perseverance. After 3 years, we are excited to finally announce the soft launch of The New Stereotype: STORIES. The New Stereotype (TNS) celebrates and highlights the many diverse layers of black life in America through fashion, photography, and film. STORIES is a year-long story-telling journey that celebrates the lives of Black men and women in their truest and most authentic form. The result: an engaging coffee table book featuring more than 50 people across 26 original fashion editorials shot in New York City, Chicago, and Los Angeles. Each installment of the book, labeled a CHAPTER, as an ode to the synopsis of each person’s story, serves as an interconnected thread to demonstrate Black men and women’s ability to be both a powerful ballad individually and an unspoken symphony while in unison. The journey concludes with a gallery exhibition and panel discussion in New York City on Sunday, November 12th, 2023. “There is a dignity in the suffering” and there is an art to letting go. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned over the last two years is the gift from God that comes during the times of suffering and the art of letting go of the life you expected for yourself. It is my most humble belief that everything happens for us, not to us. As I center myself in gratitude and mourn the life I originally thought was the only path forward, I open my arms and welcome the redirection, love, growth, evolution + prosperity ahead. ????????????????
