Standout projects making waves around the web

Would you look at this beauty? This is the Nar & Zeytin Piyaz I had the other evening at My Little Chamomile —> The pop and tang of pomegranate, the briny bite of olives, crunch from the walnuts, and a flurry of fresh, soft herbs tying it all together. I love this little spot tucked into the alley off Grace Street, it feels like walking into chef-owner Çağla Önal-Urel’s home. Her team always covers the table in an abundance of meze, which is exactly how I want to eat. Think roasted baby artichokes spiked with lemon, golden globes of sunchokes and carrots, and fava beans coated in yogurt and layered with dill. We ordered a little of everything and snuggled in for a cozy dinner in Chef’s home.

Collab dinners and one-night-only events are popping up all over the region and for good reason. We can’t get to every incredible restaurant around the country (or the world), so when chefs come together and bring their stories to one table? I’m in. Which is exactly why, when I heard Dakar (New Orleans) was teaming up with Moon Rabbit, I knew I had to be there. Kevin Tien is originally from Louisiana, and bringing the award-winning Dakar team to D.C. for a night of culinary exploration just made sense. I was lucky enough to dine at Dakar in New Orleans last year (it felt like being welcomed into Chef Serigne Mbaye & Effie Richardson’s home) so getting that experience here in D.C. was pretty special. Dakar NOLA x Moon Rabbit brought together Chef Serigne Mbaye and Pastry Chef Shardé Cole with Chef Kevin Tien and Pastry Chef Susan Bae for a multi-course tasting that celebrated the bold, soulful flavors of Senegal, West Africa, Vietnam, and New Orleans all layered with stories, heritage, and some truly beautiful, unexpected pairings. Swipe for highlights —>
-Tea + ataya palm bread with butter. I could’ve made a whole meal out of that bread (but I behaved, mostly).
-A table of little bites, including those custardy shrimp toasts.
- Eel-topped sesame mochi, one perfect lol’ bite.
-Grilled octopus with bún bò huê pastor.
- Tomato rice served family style (I did not want to share).
-Chè chô, almost too pretty to eat (almost).
-King cake croquembouche,, a mic drop ending. These two restaurants carry such rich narratives on their own and getting to experience them together, in one night, was a reminder of how powerful collaboration can be.

Took a little break during Industry Night with Chefs Matt Conroy and Isabella Coss for a very serious, caviar conversation, thanks to Merolin Caviar. “Who doesn’t love fat on fat?” — Chef Coss said it, not me. And honestly, who’s going to argue with her? After a few very healthy bumps of those creamy little baubles, both chefs agreed the only move was to top their Basque cheesecake from Maison Bar à Vin with a generous mound of Merolin Caviar. What can we say? It totally works ~ #caviarlover

I know, I know, some people think Valentine’s Day is a silly, Hallmark-made holiday. And maybe it is. But honestly? Shouldn’t we all be looking for more reasons to bring a little extra love into our lives? I’ve never believed Valentine’s Day is just for couples in candlelit corners. To me, it’s a moment or a nudge to celebrate connection in all its forms: with friends, family, kids, chosen family, your better half, your ride-or-die, or even just yourself (highly underrated, by the way).  This is your permission slip to do Valentine’s Day your way. Below are some of the experiences around D.C. that caught my eye. Let’s make February 14 less about pressure and more about pleasure:
Sipping Pretty -Folger Shakespeare Library Literary Tea -Fairmont Washington, D.C., Georgetown Valentine’s Day Tea -Iron Gate for the Tunnel of Love Pop-Up -BARCA Pier & Wine Bar has a Pier of Hearts: pop-up -The Watergate Hotel for a Vintage Champagne Igloo Experience Love & Learn -DCANTER take a Sip Happens: Valentine’s Wine Classes/I Egg You for Brunch
-District Candle Lab, Burning Love Candle-Making Workshops/Bar Betsie for Cocktails Dinner + A Show -Barrel House Cafe & Bar has an entire Valentine’s Weekend Lineup/Mallard is right next door -Arena Stage –Why not see Chez Joey/Sushi at Moonraker -National Theatre where Stereophonic is playing/pre at the Occidental -Mary Cassatt Exhibition at the National Gallery of Art/Silver Lyan for cocktails -Winter Skate Spectacular at the National Building Museum/a bowl of pasta at L’Ardente -Snow Daze Social at Hi-Lawn & The Dome/See new hotspot Elegancia -Take a Hike in Black Hill Regional Park + Song Dog Distillery -A Little Luxe Overnight at The Willard Spa with the “Roses, Rosé & Relaxation” + Café du Parc Après Dark for a candlelit dinner Many of your favorite restaurants are rolling out Valentine’s Day happenings all weekend long see link in bio for the whole list ~ #lovetoloveyou

Single-digit temps have me refusing to step outside… which means I’m mentally escaping somewhere warm. So let’s rewind to Negril, Jamaica. This was my first time in Negril and specifically the West End. Night One: We stayed perched on the cliffs at West Signature, a beautifully designed residential community (not a hotel) with sweeping ocean views and all the space to actually settle in. Fully stocked kitchen, king bed, dreamy patio… and right upstairs? Syd’s on the Rocks, which quickly became our home base. Rum punch in hand (thanks, Paul), swing seat secured, and a sunset that demanded our full attention. Snacks turned into a welcome dinner by Chef Kimsan Austin, and we had the chance to spend time with Sydney Watson, the visionary behind Syd’s. She is Jamaican born and raised, and one of the few Jamaican women owning resort-style properties on the island. Her story is as powerful as the setting. Day Two: Early start to Seven Mile Beach and breakfast at Miss Lily’s at Skylark. Jamaican porridge, banana bread, ackee & codfish, callaloo, sweet plantains and my first ever Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee (mild, chocolatey … obsessed). Beach time followed, duh. Lunch was classic jerk chicken and goat stew at Three Dives, then onto the madness that is Rick’s Café. Sunset there is a whole scene. We later slipped away to Ivan’s for something calmer before heading back to Syd’s for another standout dinner (whole fried snapper and that Puerto Rican lasagna layered with jerk short rib and plantains). Pro-tip: Ask for Mercedes ~ Final Day: More turquoise water, a long walk along Seven Mile Beach soaking up all the Negril vibes. One last sunset at Syd’s (rosé and plantain chips in hand) followed by dinner next door at Rockhouse Hotel, where we dined cliffside on Caribbean lobster with the ocean crashing below.
Here I am at home, freezing in a big ol’ sweater wishing I were still at West Signature with a rum punch, watching the sun melt into the sea at Syd’s on the Rocks. BRB… booking my return. Stay tuned for a Where We’ve Been on TheListAreYouOnIt.com~

How fun is this?!
Midway through a recent Industry Night recording, I put a tin of Imperial Gold Merolin Caviar in front of chef Jon Sybert (because I always travel with Persian caviar in my bag, don’t you? ????) What followed was a great caviar conversation focused on flavor, that perfect pop, and Jon’s take on how he’d actually use it in a dish (hint: it’s not about a blini). Huge thanks to Merolin Caviar for making this delicious moment possible. This is what happens when you put beautiful product in front of a talented chef and let the conversation just flow. Stay tuned for a new Industry Night and to catch up on any missed episodes see link in bio ~ ????????✨

I’m here to confirm that everything you heard about the Eebee’s burger is true.
Dry-aged brick of beef from master butcher, Pat LaFrieda. Seared and topped with two cheeses, on a sesame bun. Oh and don’t sleep on those tallow-fried cottage fries ~ #worththewait
