Today I’m remembering Gosia @wingspangirl ???? Gosia was one of the kindest, most caring people I’ve met in the board game community. She always checked in, always offered supportive words, and genuinely cared - not just about games, but about people and their families. She was a constant supporter of all of us, and I have a fond memory of when Gosia asked about being a guest with me and PJ on our podcast. She shared her love for Wingspan and Obsession, and I know that stepping onto the podcast was well outside her comfort zone - what an honour it was. Her enthusiasm was infectious, and her kindness effortless. Gosia brought warmth, encouragement, and positivity to our world and our community. Well I’ve finally been and done it - I got to go to my first Spiel, Essen! @spiel_messe ???? For years the dates have never worked but in 2025 I got there and it did not disappoint! As BIG and as HECTIC as I thought it would be and I had an absolutely fantastic awesome time! Can we do it again soon?!? ???? Being part of a group of international gamers staying together about 30 mins from Essen, all who had all been before made the whole experience a lot easier. They knew the parking, hot spots, choke points, food and what to do / not do…this knowledge made the whole 5 days we spent together so much easier for a first timer. Thank you @burtons_boards @ice_n_dice_games @mulli_peter @mostly.solo @playalongwithmae @board_runner and Sabrina! Also the wonderful @trywingames @floweringembers ❤️ We spent Wednesday travelling, Thursday and Friday at Spiel, Saturday playing games at our Airbnb and Sunday travelling home. This to me is the perfect mix, I love hanging out with fellow gamers and this group do not disappoint. Full of laughter, looking out for each other, teaching games, buying games for each other to help the queuing, cooking and supporting each other was what makes this whole experience an absolute joy. ???? I got a load of games..no doubt too many but I’m really pleased with the mix of big titles, obscure games and everything else I found! Packing the car is certainly a new sport!! ???? Meeting designers (especially catching up with Ignacy @trzewik and the team from @visitbantam), publishers and artists made being part of this board game community / industry so much more a privilege! A highlight was playing Behind from @kyf_edition and getting both my box lids have some personal art added there and then following a chat about the game design, special. ???? It’s Spiel weekend and after spending two days at my first Spiel at Essen @spiel_messe we have a games day at our apartment. First game to hit the table is Covenant from @devirgames and what a fantastic first game to play! You all know I love a worker placement game and this is from one of my favourite designers @germanpmillan doesn’t disappoint! The Druids of Edora! (2025) ???? @ravensburgerglobal The most recent design from Stefan Feld uses one of his favourite mechanics…dice placement! ???? We have only had two plays of this game so far so a bit early to give a view however it was certainly seen as a keeper by both groups who liked the fast paced turns and the straightforward rules. ????♂️ Speaking of rules…the rule book has some issues linked to translation from I guess German to English..there is a great FAQ on the boardgamegeel website that quickly gets you in your way! The Hobbit: There & Back Again ????????️ Another new game over the weekend was this rather nice roll and write adventure through the adventures of Bilbo Baggins! Taught by @ice_n_dice_games we played the first chapter of the flop book which we all enjoyed! I was impressed by the variation of each chapter in terms of the mechanics and rules for each page. Really easy to learn and the theme is spot on!
