2 Worlds. Not a contradiction. A condition. Growing up, I held onto a picture-perfect version of myself. And for a while, it worked. Well-behaved. Book-smart. Quiet enough to feel safe. The kind of kid adults would point to and say, “He’s so well raised.” But inside, I was already split. Because I was more than the polite, proper son. Every creative impulse got pushed aside. Instead: martial arts. Chess class. Straight A’s. Doing exactly what was expected of me. Nothing more. Nothing real. Where I come from, contradiction wasn’t an option. No room for softness and strength. No blueprint for creativity and control. It was either/or. That’s what I was taught. But the older I got, the more I overcorrected. I let go of everything. Because even now, I hold both worlds. One day I’m watching Zizek vs. Peterson at 1.5x speed, annotating the contradictions. The next I’m binge-watching Real Housewives like it’s spiritual detox. It’s not either/or. It never was. Being two things at once isn’t a contradiction. It’s a condition. My condition.
