Even when you’re two hours outside the city in the middle of nowhere, there’s still no houses. They’re apartments and townhouses. I’m like don’t you want some privacy? It seems like they like the sense of community that comes w being in an apartment building. They want to run into neighbors in the hallway even when there’s space. Not me. Gimmie my own castle! I found this castle that was recently converted into a hotel in a tiny town of 200. Some people renovate castles w the same medieval stone interior which can get a lil creepy. Got to check Mallos de Riglos off my bucket list! I knew it would be more impressive than in the pictures. But the most impressive thing is the little town of Riglos that sits on top of the mountain under the rock formation. How did they get all the building materials up to build the cluster of houses under the rocks? You have to drive up pretty far to get there! And then another most impressive thing is that the bar at the top of mountain / bottom of the rock formation sells drinks for just as much as you can buy them on regular land. The capitalist in me wanted to yell, “You could be selling bottles of water for 10€! What are you thinking? Just to get them up here is a pain in the ass! No wonder you’re in a recession! You can’t spot an opportunity if it hit you in the face!” Have you battled your inner capitalist while traveling abroad? #aragon #mallosderiglos #spain

Today I got to see the Ecce Homo at the Sanctuary of Mercy in Borja, Spain! I had to see it in person because every time I see it, it makes me laugh so hard. Borja is in the middle of wine and olive oil country. Right outside the church is a beautiful view of the mountains and vineyards! I feel like I’m inside an olive oil label. I can’t believe they only charge 3€ to get in. Apparently, before Cecilia Gimenez finished restoring the painting, someone took a picture and it went viral. She brought thousands of tourists to her tiny town and helped revitalize the local economy!
